Wild Thang You Make Everything
I bought this wild looking blazer from H&M about 2 months ago and was waiting for a party night to wear it, but then I thought what the heck, why not wear it during the day? After all, I dress according to mood and it suited me just fine. Btw, it was only $24!
I paired it with a basic black T-shirt, black jeans, boots, and my latest pair of sunglasses from Gant by Michael Bastian. Check out their website to see gorgeous videos under the “some memories last forever” tab. Speaking of videos – new vlog at the bottom of this post. JD xx

This is the Heartbreak Hotel
My friend and I were walking down Queen street and she stopped in front of the gorgeous heritage house across from Trinity Bellwoods Park and said “I’ve NEVER noticed that house.” I was shocked because she’s lived in the city longer than I have, and I notice it every time I walk by. Later that day, another friend came across a big storage closet at work and said “I NEVER knew this existed.” Shocked again, I thought how could this be?
Then came my turn. The next day I was walking down Queen street and I happened to look above the Hero Burger and noticed an old sign that said Hotel Heartbreak. I am very familiar with this area and I have NEVER noticed it before! What a bizarre feeling. Life is full of funny little surprises. Does that ever happen to you? JD

And for those who now have Whitney Houston’s Heartbreak Hotel in their head….hit it!

Ready for Take Off

So I walked into this office yesterday and Julie asked me if I was on my way to work at Air Canada. I looked in the mirror and she was right! I looked like a flight attendant (I prefer stewardess). I admit I was a little lazy this particular morning and putting on a black skirt, white shirt and black blazer was the easiest thing to do. After all, it is more of a uniform than an outfit. After work, I left to have dinner with my sister at her place and her boyfriend walked in the door and asked me if I was ready for take off. I guess wasn’t fooling anyone – the joke was on me. CM

Princess Hair and Spa
I believe every girl needs a go-to salon/esthetician near her home, work, and somewhere in between. It took me a while to peg my top three, but my newest and final third is Princess Hair & Spa at College & Ossington.
It offers full service for your hair and spa needs from hair cuts, to waxing, facial treatments, manicures, and pedicures. Everything you need to keep you looking and feeling fabulous from the inside out.
The girls who work there are young and friendly, and I especially like it’s modest prices. This is a fantastic place to go for a girl on a budget. I like to spread the word when I find something good, and this one is worth spreading.

Vintage Silk Shirt
This top is from Reitmans circa 1980 something, from my aunt’s closet. I paired it with basic leggings, a belt, oxfords, a new camel coloured purse from Cole Haan, and my favourite chapeau by Goorin Bros. Check out my vlog at the bottom if you fancy it. JD xx

Speaking of Fall
You know how people make fun of Canadians for talking about the weather? I’m so the person who talks about the weather, but guess what? I don’t care! Tease away….
We didn’t get the Indian summer we hoped for, but we got the best Indian Fall day yesterday…not sure if that’s even a term. In any case, I was loving every minute of the 18 degree weather, as I strolled in my trench coat and thin leggings.
I had to stop to capture the trees on my walk through Trinity Bellwoods Park. So pretty. I went walking for a good hour and broke into a mini sweat by the end of it. Let’s hear it for freakishly warm weather days when it’s not supposed to be warm! Giddy-up. JD

The Tapered Cargo Pant
You know what’s the best? Walking through the U of T campus on a crisp fall day. It’s just so beautiful. The sun went down fast, so you can’t exactly tell, but the orange and red leaves on the ground, the old buildings, and the glow of light were simply great. You should take a stroll before winter hits.
Here I’m wearing a tapered cargo pant that I ordered from an online store called Alloy. The brand is UnionBay and they were $60 (after tax and shipping). I paired them with my new favourite top – the silk boyfriend shirt from Joe Fresh, $39. My blazer is from Zara, black studded belt is from Joe Fresh, and my exaggerated gingham scarf is Joe Fresh as well. I didn’t plan this! Joe just knows how to do the basics right. My leather jacket is a staple from Andrew Marc (sample sale). I hope you are seizing the best of Fall! JD

Band of Horses

Last night I was back at the Kool Haus for the sold out Band of Horses show. They sounded great and I bopped or swayed along with the crowd to every song played but I couldn’t get past one thing. The lead singer fired his entire band who he rose to fame with and acquired this sold-out-show following. He rehired a completely new band and hit the road their current tour. In the words of Stephanie Tanner, “How rude!”.
Here I am wearing the much coveted and completely sold out H&M aviator jacket. It was a hot ticket item this fall due to its $35 price tag. Warm and cozy was what I was going for last night so I wore it over top of an over sized sweater and my Joe Fresh sweater leggings. CM

Contest: Calvin Klein BEAUTY
We were one of ten bloggers selected in Canada to be among the first to wear the new fragrance by Calvin Klein called BEAUTY. We were thrilled when a bottle of the fragrance arrived accompanied by a gorgeous floral arrangement! Who doesn’t love flowers delivered to your door? (Guys, take note).
We’re both a bit finicky when it comes to fragrance smells, but this one is really lovely. It has a nice light and beautiful scent and makes me think of an ultra feminine woman in a pretty dress with her hair up a la Betty Draper, getting ready to go on a date with a handsome man. Yes, that’s what I thought of from smelling the fragrance. I’m very visual that way! Calvin Klein describes it as “the ultimate femininity of a luminous and modern floral.” Exactly.

To launch this sweetly smelling product, FASHION Magazine is holding an amazing contest. All you have to do is submit a photo of what you think is beautiful and share it with the FASHION Magazine community. It can be a photo of a mountain, your favourite purse, a hair style – be creative! Click HERE to enter the contest.
The Grand Prize is:
* $1,000 shopping spree on CalvinKlein.com
* 6 months of Callalily deliveries
* Calvin Klein fragrance gift basket ($500 value)
* 3 year subscription to FASHION Magazine, and (last but not least)
* A day at the spa
WOAH! Great prize huh?

As part deux of this contest, we will be doing a giveaway of our own. One lucky reader will win a 50 mL bottle of Calvin Klein BEAUTY eau de parfum. Like our Facebook page HERE and stay tuned for details! JD

Hanging with Steven and Chris
Yesterday we were invited to a taping of the Steven and Chris show at the CBC in downtown Toronto. It was a special show because the audience was made up of all Bloggers. Hurray for Bloggers!
Steven and Chris are the go-to guys for ideas in home decor, entertaining, style, relationships, health, beauty and more. They have also begun airing south of the boarder in multiple US media markets. Very exciting!
The show was high energy and lots of fun as they gave us useful DIY tips on framing small photos in over-sized frames; showed us how to make pulled pork marinated in Dr. Pepper (very strange, yet very tasty); and the celebrity guest was Jenny McCarthy!! She was gorgeous, funny, and had a lot of interesting things to talk about. She was promoting her new book Love, Lust, and Faking It – and she really sold us on it — going to buy a copy soon.
Check out her killer shoes!
After the show, they served us lunch (pulled pork of course), and did a Q&A session. We asked them to define their personal style and if they disagreed on each others outfits — the answer: Chris is monochromatic and channels a Tom Ford kind of look, while Steven is laid back and more of an Abercrombie guy. When we asked them what style they like to see on a woman, without missing a beat they said “CONFIDENCE.” We couldn’t agree more! It warmed our hearts to see them interact so genuinely with the crowd and with each other.
Thanks for an awesome afternoon boys!! You inspired us and we can’t wait to come back. JD & CM xo
Watch Steven and Chris, weekdays at 2 p.m. on CBC
P.S – We will be doing a giveaway for tickets to the show along with gift bags. Like our Facebook page HERE and stay tuned for details.

Shiny Disco Ball
Oui. C’est moi. This was my getup for last Saturday’s Boobyball. I found it at 69 Vintage in August and knew it would be good for 3 upcoming events so I swiped it for $75. I’m sure you are thinking, “What events other than a disco-themed party would this be good for?”. Well, I wore this to the August 31st Scissor Sisters concert and I plan on wearing it to next years Pride events. The dress was a hit and I was so happy to wear it. CM

Event: Boobyball Flash
On Saturday we attended the 8th Annual Boobyball Gala in support of ReThink Breast Cancer. The theme was Studio 54, it was held at the Kool Haus, and we had a blast!!
When I set out to find my outfit, I hit all my favourite vintage stores on College, Dundas, Ossington, and Queen. Let me tell you there’s not a lot of 70s vintage out there. Not sure why? I lucked out at 69 Vintage with this cream coloured Bianca Jagger-eque one piece and had so much fun wearing it! I paired it with a collection of silver and metallic accessories, some new and some old from my ma.
I read once that you could rent from 69 Vintage so I asked about it, and sure enough I was able to do a one day rental. I love this outfit, but I’m pretty sure it would have sat in my closet for quite some time so I was happy with the rental option. JD

The Drake Hotel
After encouraging each other to start a new workout regime, we decided we didn’t want to eat a lot of party food at The Drake Hotel for the enRoute Film Festival party. But it just so happened to be the best party food ever, so we couldn’t resist! The cuisine we sampled was comfort food at it’s finest.
THE MENU
Warning: Don’t read if you’re hungry and have no food in the house.
The savoury hors d’oeuvres included tomato soup in shot glasses with mini grilled cheese sandwiches inside, decadent mac and cheese (huge emphasis on the decadent), mini veggie burritos, south-western chicken bites, oysters, sushi, and shrimp. Out came the sweets – chocolate lollipops, mini banana cream pies, hot chocolate shots, and if it couldn’t get any better (or worse for our non-eating campaign) — they brought out mini ice cream sandwiches.
If you ever want to throw a party at a good venue, with great food – The Drake Hotel should definitely be on your venue list. We both decided to walk home to burn it off, but we should have run a marathon. JD

Event: enRoute Film Festival
It’s been a busy week for us and time seems to flying at warp speed. Between photo shoots, prepping for Boobyball, dance class, a concert, and the enRoute Film Festival, I think it’s accurate to say we’re living life in the fast lane. But a busy life is a happy one so no complaining here.
The fourth annual enRoute Film Festival was a great event and we just love the initiative. The opportunity is for emerging Canadian filmmakers to showcase their talent to a diverse in-flight audience. Their work is viewed by millions of Air Canada’s passengers around the world at every seat.
After the screening of all twelve short films, the awards celebration took place at The Drake Hotel where a panel of jurors awarded winners for Best Short Film, Animation, Direction, and Cinematography.
Each finalist won an all-inclusive trip for two to the Whistler Film Festival and the grand prize winner received the trip, as well as $5,000. All the finalists were very happy and grateful for the opportunity. Next year will be the fifth edition of the festival and submissions open in January 2011. Visit enroutefilm.com for more info.

The First Free Standing Joe Fresh
Exciting news for our Western Canada readers – Joe Fresh has opened its first free-standing Joe Fresh style flagship store in Vancouver, BC! We’re kinda jealous that it’s not in Toronto, but we know in due time these shops will be popping up across the country. Very exciting times! The beautiful 14,000 square-foot space opens today (Oct. 13th) on Granville Street. Our advice: go out and grab the great finds before they’re gone. Our faves for Fall are the silk boyfriend shirt, wool tights, and chunky knit neck warmer. For more info click here.

Change of Colour

The chino boyfriend trouser is a big look this fall season but with me NOT being a size 2 it has been hard to find a good pair that I feel comfortable in. I swear you not I have probably tried on 20 different pairs of the low-rise,pleated pant with no success. Until I came across these at Zara. I like where they sit on my lady lumps (hips) and love the tapered leg. They were $45 and feel more like a sweat pant then a trouser – double score! On this day I went for a more classic look with a cropped jean jacket from H&M; $20, and a white t-shirt from The Bay; $20. Hat is from Zara, bag is Forever 21, sunnies are from Kensington and shoes are Aldo. CM
