Up On The Roof

We haven’t done a Friday post in a while, so it feels kinda funny, but feels good too. I don’t want this summer-time weather to leave us…it makes outside outfit shoots a real pleasure.
I bought this long pleated skirt from H&M at the start of the spring season and always paired it with a plain white t-shirt, but then I saw a girl wearing it with a leopard top and it inspired me to pair my tribal top with it (bought at Forever 21). I like it much better than the white and it worked well with my black fedora (by Goorin Bros.), Cheap Monday sunglasses, and chunky heels by Top Shop (from LAB Consignment). Have an amazing day! JD

Prep School Pooch

Speaking of animals, those who know me, know I’m not an animal lover.  Insert “you’re a cold-hearted b*tch” here. However, I couldn’t help but smile at my friend’s cute puppy Rocco who came along for the photo shoot. What a good little pooch agreeing to being a prop in my preppy post.
As I mentioned a few posts down, I went to a swap party a couple of weeks ago and that’s where I found these faded red Gap shorts.  I paired them with a button down shirt and striped sweater both from Joe Fresh, along with my old man driving cap from Kensington market, and sunglasses by Cheap Monday.  I look like I’m set for prep school. Not a typical look for me, but as I like to say – it’s fun to change things up. JD

Wild Horses

As soon as I saw this horse top at H&M I had to have it.  I don’t even like horses, I just liked the pattern, colours, and material.  I’ve since seen a number of gals wearing it around the city so it’s quickly losing it’s appeal, but I’m sure I’ll continue to wear it throughout the fall season. I guess this is as animal print as I get.  CM loves leopard but it doesn’t suit me, so I’m good with the horses.
I paired my new top with a blush coloured skirt from H&M, vintage purse from my mams, socks from Urban Outfitters, and cute new booties by Dollhouse – found at Winners on Bloor. My aviators are my grandpops. JD

Swap Party Crop Top

I went to a clothing swap party a few weeks ago and got this vintage crop top that I’ve been loving.  It’s perfectly worked in and just plain rad. There are a lot of layers going on with this outfit, so I’ll break it down head to toe…

Tan floppy hat – H&M
Vintage aviators – my grandfather’s from the 70s
Silk top – Joe Fresh
Army green jacket – Esprit (from one hundred years ago)
Domino jeans – gifted
Vintage gold belt – Print Fine Vintage (College St.)
Vintage coach purse – randomly found at a College St. pop-up sale for $5
Chinese Laundry heels – Winners on Bloor

Reading The Signs

Finding new spots to take outfit pics is one of my favourite things about blogging.  It makes me appreciate the scenery around me and makes me notice interesting or funny things.  Yesterday, I stumbled upon a good spot which happened to be someone’s driveway.  I was going to use the beautiful ivy as the backdrop but the no parking signs and fake flowers were more interesting.

This is my simple 70′s look.  Wide leg jeans are Seven for all Mankind and I’ve had them for years.  I hardly wear them because I’m more of a skinny jeans kind of girl, but it’s fun to switch it up once in a while.  My linen shirt and floppy hat are from H&M, clutch is from the Gap, and my belt and boots are vintage.  JD

What’s Your Number?

Have you watched the trailer for What’s Your Number?  It’s a comedy starring Anna Faris, based on the book 20 Times a Lady by Karyn Bosnak.  Ally goes on a mission to find the best “ex” of her life after reading an article warning that people who have had 20 or more relationships have missed their chance at true love.

It opens in theaters on the 30th but we’re giving away tickets to the pre-screening on Sept 29/Thurs at Silver City Yonge & Eglington at 7 pm.  One of our readers will win passes for her and 3 friends, plus a copy of the book by Karyn Bosnak, courtesy of Harper Collins.

Just tweet “@7dollarpants I want to win passes for What’s Your Number” and we’ll pull the lucky winner from there.

Side note, I read Karyn Bosnak’s first book Save Karyn YEARS ago and loved it.  She’s a funny chick, so I have no doubt this movie is going to be a blast.  Check out Karyn’s site here. JD

Strombo 2011 TIFF Party

We were lucky enough to score an invite to George Stroumboulopoulos’s Hazelton Takeover Party at ONE for a second year in row.  Julie was unable to make it so I brought the famous SJP.  We knew the party was going to be a hit when we walked onto the massive red carpet that shut down Hazelton Ave for the evening.  As we made our way in around midnight, fans and paparazzi lined the gates waiting for the stars to make their entrance and pose for pics on the E Talk red carpet.  Once inside, we were greeted by party-goers and many recognizable faces from television and film.  Here are some of the celebs showed up over the course of the evening - Jon Hamm, Woody Harrelson, K’naan, Kiefer Sutherland, Paul Haggis, Rob Lowe, Kardinal Official, Gerard Butler, Paul Giamatti, Jason Reitman, Chantal Kreviazuk, Morgan Spurlock, Johnny Rotten, and Bono.  And we cant for get the man of the evening George!  We want to thank him again for such a good night.  You can catch his show, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight weeknights on CBC at 11:05 pm.  CM

Cougar Pillow Boots

So my interpretation of the Cougar boot look is less Urban Mexican and more Lazy Ontario Cottager. However, that would lead to you questioning the paved pathway and doubt my northern location. It is true…the jig it up! I am sitting in a park in Forest Hill. Also, I would never be wearing jeans at a cottage – just leggings and sweat pants for me!

Anyway, it was love at first sight for me and my cougar boots when I pushed back the buffalo plaid tissue paper (nice touch!) and pulled them from their box.  To see more from Cougar, or to pick up a pair of your own pillow boot, click here.

Outfit:
Hat – Groorin
Jacket – Aritzia
Shirt – Forever 21
Jeans – H&M

The Pillow Boot Is Back!

We love these boots!  Canadian boot company Cougar just launched a gorgeous remake of the iconic Pillow Boot that was born in 1976.  Chances are your styling mom had a pair if you grew up in the 80s.  Ours did!
This boot is what we call functional and fashionable.  It’s extremely comfortable, warm, durable enough for our crazy weather, and looks pretty great too.  This boot in particular is a limited edition and retails for $270, but other styles start at $225.  Forget the over done Australian UGG boot, show your Canadian chops with this tan leather, calf-high lace up classic.  The red lining gives it a perfect touch and looks great with the tongue out.  Ah-maze.  JD
PS – Click here to find out where to buy.

Outfit details:
Poncho – bought at a random boutique in Montreal ($68)
Domino jeans – gifted
Floppy hat – H&M
Grey socks – Urban Outfitters
Cougar Pillow Boots – gifted

I was going to toss this dress to my swap party pile because it was getting boring, but then an outfit I saw on Lookbook.nu inspired me to accessorize it differently.  I wasn’t sure about adding browns and tans with a black and white dress but together it worked out nicely.

Outfit details:
Polka dot dress – H&M
Floppy hat – H&M
Sunglasses – Cheap Monday
Necklace – Vintage
Floral belt – H&M
Lace-up booties – Spring Shoes

Lunch Date in Yorkville

This week CM celebrated her birthday so the two of us had a lunch date in Yorkville.  We used to go to Sushi Inn a lot but then one of our Twitter friends told us she found a slug in her food there, so that ended.  We really like Asuka on Yorkville Ave, but it was packed and we didn’t have time to wait for a table, so we went to KoKo Share Bar and sat in the cute window seat.  I wrote about it last year here, and if you haven’t gone yet – you must!  It’s very, very delicious and the owner told us she buys all her ingredients fresh everyday.  Freshness makes all the difference.  CM tried the Chicken Bimbimbap – a steaming hot Korean dish, and I couldn’t help but order my favourite – the Makimono Assortment.  Both stellar choices we highly recommend.  Happy Birthday CM!  Cheers to another year wiser.  JD xx
