Red Checker

Don’t ask me why I bundled up with a blazer and dress shirt on a day hotter than Kenya.  Actually I ditched the blazer and unbuttoned the top button, but still – it was a bit ridiculous.  I saw my white jeans sitting on a pile of jeans and got the urge to wear them. My jeans are from Joe Fresh ($29), red checker top is from Value Village, blazer is from Zara, shoes are from Winners, and purse is from Cole Haan.  New summer rule for me – no. more. pants!  JD

Life is Beautiful

Extreme humidity is something I love.  The hotter the better.  But it also means I’ve given up on my hair.  There’s absolutely no way I can have my spaghetti hair draped along my neck. I. will. die. I keep wearing it in a high top bun – so high that it looks like a little hat on top of my head….like one of those fascinators.
Yesterday I found myself in a full H&M look – I didn’t mean to, it just happened.  Skirt, t-shirt, belt, and jacket are all from H&M.  Funny how that happens.  Booties are oldies from Capezio, and my purse is from Cole Haan. PS – I loved this wall I stumbled upon.  Life should always be pretty. JD

Wearing Winter Items in Spring + Giveaway from @Sherway_Gardens

As Canadians we have to learn to live with our stubborn weather.  One day it’s sweltering hot and the next day it’s chilly.  On the bright side, it allows me to wear a few winter items right into the spring season.  I actually don’t mind, it gives me satisfaction knowing I get a lot of use out of certain versatile items.

The cream coloured sweater is a trend I absolutely love.  I bought this one at American Eagle Outfitters at Sherway Gardens.  It’s stylish, and keeps me warm on chilly days when paired with jeans and boots, but I also wear it on those in between days (like yesterday) with a circle skirt, bare legs, and sandals – perfect transition for warmer days.

My lace dress from M for Mendocino was a staple item I wore this past winter with woolly tights, flat boots, and anorak jacket.  Now I can wear the same dress in warmer temps with a chambray shirt and sandals.

My Cole Haan menswear inspired boots from Ron White were a great trend for winter and I can’t seem to stop wearing them.  I’ve been sporting them with dresses and skirts sometimes with socks showing at the top.

Level 99 Jeans

Coloured jeans are one of my top must have items for the Spring/Summer season.  I fell in love with the fit and shades of Level 99 jeans.  This particular pair is the Janice ultra skinny in argon green.  I absolutely love how fresh they are.  They have just the right amount of stretch and snug.  You can find them at Anthropologie (78 Yorkville Ave).  I paired them with my floral blouse and moto jacket from H&M, and Cole Haan booties.  The random garage seemed to match too.  JD

The Floral Blazer

The floral blazer is one of my top must haves for the spring season.  I was on the hunt for the perfect floral blazer for quite some time and finally approved of this one the moment I saw it on Aritzia’s website.  It was a birthday gift to myself.  I paired it with my Levi’s cut offs, grey tights from Joe Fresh, and a basic white t-shirt from Zara.  Cole Haan shoes and a black vintage purse complete the look.  I hope to get a lot of wear out of this one.  JD

Floral Explosion

I’ve been gravitating towards floral print items for the past couple seasons now, and I’ve gathered quite the collection.  My newest addition is this sheer floral top from H&M.  I paired it with pleated shorts from H&M as well.  Shoes are by Cole Haan, and my bag and necklace are vintage finds.  Happy long weekend! Singing In The Hail

I had planned a blog shoot on Sunday and wasn’t going to let a little rain or hail stop me.  It was a bit ridiculous and cold, but it still worked!  I always tend to wear this knit dress when it rains, I don’t know why, but it’s just my go-to rain dress.  It’s from Joe Fresh and it’s still in excellent condition despite how many times I’ve worn it. Solid purchase.
My denim shirt and trench coat are from Zara, weather proof boots are from Cole Haan, and my favourite umbrella is by Fulton.  It reminds me of walks home from elementary school, I had one just like it.  JD

Forever In Blue Jeans Babe

Canadian tuxedo, double denim, forever in blue jeans is what I’ll be. Oh Neil Diamond, click here for the tune.  I used to rock out to that as a kid.  With my dad. In the car. Keep listening, it gets good when he belts out.

Here I’m wearing my most comfortable pair of jeggings by Canadian label – Domino.  I paired it with my denim shirt from Zara, and nubuck boots from Cole Haan.  Giant scarf is from H&M, leather gloves from Winners, and my parka is by Talula Babaton from Aritzia (old).  Have a wonderful weekend wearing blue jeans! Silky Smooth Pleats

This pleated skirt from Zara is delicate and silky smooth.  I love the colours and pattern.  I paired it with my silky smooth boyfriend shirt from Joe Fresh, a wardrobe staple!  Wool tights are from Winners, booties are by Cole Haan, and my parka is an old favourite by Talula Babaton that I got at Artizia many moons ago.  Head band is from H&M.  Enjoy your coffee break today.  JD

This Time Last Year

Sometimes I look at my own blog for outfit inspiration.  I wasn’t sure what to wear this morning so I took a look at what I was wearing this time last year, and voila, I’m happy with this outfit still.
It’s good to keep inventory of what you have and remember the outfits you’ve already styled so you can get dressed in a flash on days when there’s simply no time.  On a side note, I cannot believe it’s already March!! Hopefully spring-like weather will begin sooner than later.  Happy Friday! JD

Outfit details: H&M Sweater, Zara skirt, Handmade hat from The Hack, Vintage accessories and hat, Cole Haan boots.

A Sunny Winter Day

Yesterday I decided to have a beach day in the middle of winter.  I took a stroll down Lake Erie in Port Colborne and took a few shots along the way.  My red jacket is from Winners, hat is vintage/my mom’s, jeans are by Rich & Skinny, and my boots and bag are by Cole Haan.  Hope you enjoyed the sunny winter day.  JD

Comfortably Dressed Up

Whenever I’m asked how to define my style, I say “comfortably dressed up.”  This outfit is a perfect example of that.  It’s dressy because I’m wearing a dress and mink collar, but comfortable with wool tights and flat boots.
I bought this dress at H&M and it’s another versatile piece that can be worn year round with the right accessories.

The rest of my outfit…
Green anorak jacket – M for Mendocino
Beret – Joe Fresh
Mink collar – 69 Vintage
Purse – Vintage Coach
Tights – Winners
Boots – Cole Haan

Versatile Skylark

I bought this floral top at an amazing store called Skylark on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice.  If I owned a store, it would be very much like this one.  It’s part vintage, part local and established designers and exactly my kind of style.  I could have bought everything in there.  I’ve worn this top with jeans, jean shorts, green cargos, grey harem pants, and now with my yellow skirt.  I love buying something so versatile. My skirt and purse are from Forever 21, belt and necklace are vintage, and lace-up heels are Cole Haan. JD

Polka Dot Explosion

This look was inspired by a picture I saw of Alexa Chung.  She didn’t have all the polka dots going on, but it was the same idea – camel colour cardigan, jean shorts and tights.  I love finding a picture of an outfit I dig and realizing I have all similar pieces in my closet.  If you want a different feel to your weekend wear, switch to jean shorts and tights instead of wearing jeans all the time.  Actually, I used to hate this look but it grew on me.  It’s fun to try different things with your wardrobe, so why not?

Outfit details:
Cut-off jean shorts – Levi’s
Maroon belt – Joe Fresh
Polka dot top – Winners
Cardigan – Forever 21
Lace-up booties – Cole Haan
Fur collar – taken from my parka
Tights – H&M
Hat – Goorin Bros.
Purse – Vintage

Cape Weather And A Buttery Bag

We’ve been lucky to have fall jacket weather this season.  My favourite.  Sometimes fall is just as cold as winter and I feel like I wear my winter coat for 8 months.  Thank you nature for the mildness.
I’ve been wearing my navy cape a lot and my buttery leather bag.  This jacket was my mom’s maternity cape that she wore when she was pregnant with me 30 years ago.  I like the shape of it and how it hangs over my non-pregnant body.  I added the fur collar that I took from one of my parkas.

Other items:
Headband and Boots – H&M
Harem pants – Forever 21
Purple gloves – Joe Fresh
Bag – Cole Haan

Stretching The Summer Wardrobe

I normally wear this dress in the summer with bare legs and boots of some sort, like I showed you here.  But I noticed I’m short on dresses from constantly cleaning out my closet, so I decided to turn my summer floral dress into a fall outfit by adding a white button down shirt, black cardigan, and black tights. My belt is vintage, and it’s so tight it feels like a seat belt….in a good way.  My bag and shoes are Cole Haan. The heel is sky-high and sadly I can only last 2 hours max.  Lastly my green anorak jacket is from M for Mendocino.  I want my next floral dress to be midi length, but can’t seem to find a good one.  Let me know if you see one anywhere. Thanks.  JD

White Hot

Toronto is setting record temperatures right now.  We would be the country’s equivalent to Phoenix – hot and the sun is relentless.  This is not a complaint, just a statement.  The weather is amazing.  I kept it cool this day with a white, cotton Zara dress belted with a leopard print skinny belt from H&M.  The Cole Haan shoes I’m wearing have turned out to be my purchase of the summer.  I wear them with pretty much everything and they boost my 5’3 measurements to at least 5’7.  CM

Dress – Zara

Belt – H&M

Necklace – Forever 21

Bag – Aldo

Shoes – Cole Haan

Sunglasses – Ray-Ban

Yellow Fever

Since taking my hair up a couple notches of blonde (gasp! this isn’t my natural hair colour) my go to colour this summer has been yellow.  I want yellow everything – dresses, shoes, bags, headbands – the whole kit and caboodle.  This shift dress was found recently at Jacob for $40.  Styled with a black belt, beaded necklace and headband for a Mod look.  However, the best accessory is the black Vespa.  Just wish it was mine… CM

Dress – Jacob $40

Belt – Vintage

Shoes – Aldo $49

Sunglasses – Tory Burch, Ilori $67

Bag – Cole Haan

Necklace – Forever 21 $6

Simple 90s Look

Never underestimate clothing yard sales.  We love them!  I got an awesome purse once from a yard sale on Gore Vale, and this past weekend I bought a top for $1.50.  I gave the woman a toonie and said to keep the change, so it was actually $2.  Always be sure to wash anything vintage you buy (that’s a given), and then you’re good to go.

I paired my new/old top with my yoga jeans by Second Denim ($110), Banana Republic clogs ($23), Cole Haan purse ($165), and Cheap Monday sunglasses ($30).  It was a simple 90s look.  I never thought I would like short tops again, but now that’s all I really like.  It’s weird how fashion shifts and changes, but fun too.  I just really hope flare jeans don’t come back, ew.  JD

Power Ball: Thirteeth Floor

After the Conair beauty lounge, we made our way to Power Ball 13 – one of the city’s largest charity events in support of The Power Plant art gallery.  The annual gala raises vital funds for exhibitions and public programs.
The venue was packed with interesting people, contemporary art exhibits, DJs, and porchetta on a spit.  It was a gorgeous night so we spent most of it mingling on the outdoor patio.  Oh warm summer nights on a patio, please stay with us for a while.

Outfit details for JD:
BCBG one-shoulder dress $124
Top Shop heels $100 (from LAB Consignment)
Nine West clutch (gifted)

Outfit details for CM:
BCBG one-shoulder dress $180
Cole Haan wedges $90
H&M clutch $12

The chignon was a fun hair-do, except it was so big it stuck to the velcro tent wall, and hit the roof of the cab while getting in.

Faux Vintage

This vintage looking sweater isn’t vintage – it’s actually from Forever 21 but gets mistaken for a handmade sweater quite often.  My wool skirt is from Costa Blanca ($10), but don’t go looking for it – I bought it in grade 10.  True story.  How it’s lasted this long, I have no idea.  My belt is an 80s classic from my mom, and leather boots are by Cole Haan. The Giving Top

I must say I’m glad I bought this lace top by Vero Moda because it’s becoming an anchor piece with a lot of outfits this season. I’ve worn it here, here, and here.  That’s a lot of heres.

I paired it with my nude high-waist skirt from H&M, black tights, and leather boots by Cole Haan.

ps – It’s way too cold for this! brrrrrrrr.
pps – Send me off to a coconut island.

This is one of my “I’m so cold” dance moves. Theme song: Cold as Ice by Foreigner.

Leather and Lace

I forgot about this skirt, and found it while organizing my closet a few days ago.  The last time I wore it was here with my coral sweater. It’s my Mad Men inspired lady look, and it often gets mistaken for a dress. I bought it for $22 at Vintage Mix 1 on Ossington. One of my favourite vintage shops!  My top is by Vero Moda from The Bay, and leather boots are by Cole Haan. I’m kinda cold just looking at these pics…now back to hibernation. JD

And for all you Steve Nicks fans, here is one of my favourite songs – Leather and Lace.

Electric Blue

I’m going to try really hard to add splashes of colour to my outfits this winter to save me from the black and grey drab syndrome we all fall into.  I found this electric blue blazer at H&M for $39 and I love it! JD

Other parts of my outfit include:
* Black jeans from Zara
* Circle scarf from Spring
* Silk shirt from a vintage store in Gent (Belgium)
* Moto gloves from Aldo
* Sunglasses are Gant by Michael Bastian
* Purse by Cole Haan

Back to Black

When I pull my winter coats out of storage, remove them from their garment bags and hang them in my closet I get excited. Excited because I enjoy creating new outfits from my revived winter wardrobe. “You’re styling two outfits at once!”, I tell my mother. She thinks I’m crazy.

This black jacket is from Club Monaco. I realize Club Monaco doesn’t want to hear this but, I always wait till after Christmas to scour their sale racks for deals on Outerwear and leather. This jacket was found marked down from $300 to $100. Made from 100% wool, it has held it bell shape beautifully over the past 3 years and has become a winter staple for me.

Boots are from Cole Haan. Beautiful non? Headband and stockings are H&M and gloves are BOSS Black. CM
