Forever In Blue Jeans Babe

Canadian tuxedo, double denim, forever in blue jeans is what I’ll be. Oh Neil Diamond, click here for the tune.  I used to rock out to that as a kid.  With my dad. In the car. Keep listening, it gets good when he belts out.

Here I’m wearing my most comfortable pair of jeggings by Canadian label – Domino.  I paired it with my denim shirt from Zara, and nubuck boots from Cole Haan.  Giant scarf is from H&M, leather gloves from Winners, and my parka is by Talula Babaton from Aritzia (old).  Have a wonderful weekend wearing blue jeans! Never Say Never

I’m not an animal print kind of gal.  I appreciate it and like it on others, but I usually feel like an imposter when I try animal print pieces….until I bought these leopard print boots from Top Shop.  I got interested in leopard print footwear from seeing them styled different ways on the fashion blogs I look at.  I love the splash of colour on my feet. They’re fun to wear! JD

Rest of outfit:
Jacket – H&M (on sale for $30, reg $100 – deal!)
Silk boyfriend shirt – Joe Fresh
Coral t-shirt – H&M
Sunglasses – Cheap Monday

Army green jacket – Esprit (from one hundred years ago)

Vintage gold belt – Print Fine Vintage (College St.)
Vintage coach purse – randomly found at a College St. pop-up sale for $5

The Pillow Boot Is Back!

We love these boots!  Canadian boot company Cougar just launched a gorgeous remake of the iconic Pillow Boot that was born in 1976.  Chances are your styling mom had a pair if you grew up in the 80s.  Ours did!
This boot is what we call functional and fashionable.  It’s extremely comfortable, warm, durable enough for our crazy weather, and looks pretty great too.  This boot in particular is a limited edition and retails for $270, but other styles start at $225.  Forget the over done Australian UGG boot, show your Canadian chops with this tan leather, calf-high lace up classic.  The red lining gives it a perfect touch and looks great with the tongue out.  Ah-maze.  JD
PS – Click here to find out where to buy.

Outfit details:
Poncho – bought at a random boutique in Montreal ($68)
Domino jeans – gifted
Floppy hat – H&M
Grey socks – Urban Outfitters
Cougar Pillow Boots – gifted

Cape Town in Navy

This is my mom’s maternity cape that she wore while she was pregnant with me.  I was a giant baby by the way, coming in at 9 lbs 4 oz…and 1 month overdue.  I love fat babies…maybe I knew I wanted to be one before coming out.

I added this cape to my coat collection because I was inspired by the capes at American Apparel.  I noticed them in the window and suddenly remembered something similar in my mom’s closet.  I called in a panic like I always do when I think something has been given away. It went something like this…

Me: “Mom? Do you still have that cape? Please don’t say you gave it away.”
Mom: “I might have given it to so and so’s daughter when she was pregnant, but it might still be here, let me check.”
Me: “No! you can’t give stuff like that away!”
Mom: “You’re in luck, it’s still in the closet.”

These types of conversations take place every few weeks.  Last week I called asking about my leather backpack that came straight from Italy and the response was “we gave it to a girl in Cuba who really wanted it” – I couldn’t be mad at that one, but damn, kinda wish I still had it.

Also shown:
Domino jeggings ($50) from Lavish and Squalor
Steve Madden espadrilles ($50) Winners
Joe Fresh scarf $16
Angelo Damiano aviators (gifted) aka my grandfather’s sunglasses

All You Need Is Sun

I woke up on Sunday morning to the sun beaming through my curtains and onto my face, forcing my eyes to flicker a few times before officially waking up. As much as I wanted to sleep in, I couldn’t be mad at the sun. Instead I decided to seize the day with a long winter walk. I bundled up with a few layers and off I went to the lake for a 2 hour walk. Yes, 2 hours. It was -17 with the wind chill, but I was sweating walking through shin deep snow. It was a great workout and made me appreciate nature. I say all of this because of the sun. If it was overcast and dark, I wouldn’t have left my bed, or I’d walk around my apartment with my duvet hugging me like a giant cape. So I’d like to thank the sun for making my day a good one. JD

What I wore underneath my parka:
* Scuba hoodie by Lululemon (gift)
* Moto-leggings by Domino Jeans ($50)
* Technica Moon Boots from Big Foot on Queen West ($90 on sale)
* Vintage-inspired vest from Winners ($24)
* Pins on my vest from my Dad’s ski pin collection – read about it here.

An Invisible Light

My head to toe charcoal and black outfit was fitting for this non-sunny day last week. I know I said I was going to wear more colour this winter, but some days I don’t mind dressing in dark colours.  I just have to be sure to switch it up to avoid the gloomy feeling.

* Chunky knit cardigan by Dex (from Winners)
* Silk shirt and belt from Joe Fresh
* Motorcycle leggings by Domino
* Headband from H&M
* Winter boots from Town Shoes

High Rise Domino Jeans

I have new favourite denim brand that I recently added to my wardrobe – Domino Jeans. They are Canadian designed (out of Montreal), well-made, and the price point is very reasonable ($100 to $150). Not bad at all. The fit is AMAZING and so far they have kept their shape. They are my jeans du jour and I’ll be showing them a lot worn in different ways. I am loving high-rise these days and the dark denim means I can dress them up or down.

I’m also wearing:
* Soft pink top from Jacob – on sale for $29
* Puffy shoulder cardigan from H&M ($34)
* Lace-up booties from H&M ($69)
* My grandma’s purse and my grandpa’s sunglasses
