Levi’s Bootcut Skinny

A few weeks ago I told you about Levi’s new Bootcut Skinny jeans.  I was asked to style 3 outfits wearing the new bootcut and it was a little tricky.  I’m so used to tapered legs and just that tiny bit of extra material threw me off.  But I realized they’re perfect for the weekend and running around in flats.  I threw on my lace top from Vero Moda, leather jacket from H&M, brogue shoes, vintage bag, and necklaces from VV Boutique.  Simple. Easy. Comfortable.
Do you want to try the new Bootcut Skinny too?? Tweet me to win a $300 GIFT CARD from LEVI’S!!!! All you have to do is tweet @JulieDUva I want to win a $300 gift card from @LEVIS!! Keep tweeting me until Thursday. Multiple tweets gives you a better chance at winning.  All names will be thrown into a bucket and chosen at random. I’m jealous of who ever wins – $300 from Levi’s is a pretty sweet shopping day.  GOOD LUCK! JD

Levi’s Bootcut Skinny @ Junction Flea

Yesterday I wore my Levi’s bootcut skinny jeans to the Junction Flea.  The bootcut skinny is perfect paired with flats for exploring the city on a Sunday afternoon.  I went for a 70′s bo-ho look, inspired by Stevie Nicks.  Floral top is from Skylark (my favourite store on Abbott Kinny); lace vest is from H&M, hat is by Goorin Bros., and my bag is vintage coach.  Sunglasses are from Opticianado (best eye wear store in Toronto).
The Junction Flea is Toronto’s newest outdoor antique market that happens monthly at Dundas and Keele.  It’s similar to the Brooklyn Flea and features a mix of antique decor, handmade jewelry, vintage clothing, and delicious food. It’s fab! You should definitely check it out if you like markets.
Also, keep a close eye on my Twitter feed, as I’ll be doing a contest to win a $300 gift card from Levi’s! Holla! JD

The next flea is on October 14th

Simple Outfit for a HOT day

I’ve been out of town and disconnected this week, feels good not looking at a clock or computer.  I took a trip to Montreal – one of my favourite cities. The bf and I enjoyed all the city has to offer, including their legendary jazz festival.  The weather was pretty much perfect and super hot.  To keep comfortable and cool on the hottest day, I wore a soft cotton striped skirt from Winners with a thin t-shirt from H&M, paired with canvas shoes, a vintage purse, and my hair in a top knot bun.  We covered so much of the city and had a blast.  I’ll share some of my favourite spots tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Inspired By Festival Season

Yesterday I read an article about (music) festival attire in Fashion magazine and the image of Kate Moss wearing a vest and jean shorts with hunter wellies re-struck a cord.  I remember when that shot surfaced and I loved it.  Kate Moss truly is THE ultimate trend setter of our generation.  I pulled out my black vest from H&M and paired it with my Levi’s cut-offs, a silver necklace, and a pair of combat boots for my version of Kate’s look.  I also layered my lace body suit from American Apparel beneath it and added a belt from Joe Fresh.  Looking forward to the next concert I go to this summer!

What to Pack: Traveling Shoes

In the past two days, two people asked me for advice on what to pack for a city vacation.  Having been in the midst of making my own packing lists for upcoming trips, I was excited to jump on the suggestion train.  I’ll start with footwear for this post.  I’m a firm believer that you have to be comfortable – especially when traveling, but you also want to look stylish.  Every time I go on a trip my Dad asks his famous question “did you pack your running shoes?”  I always respond with “no Dad, I have to look good.”  I can’t be seen wearing my Nike Airs with a skirt.  Can you imagine? The very thought makes me shudder.  So what shoes should you pack for a vacation?

I suggest packing canvas lace-up shoes in white or black, a pair of Bob’s in red or navy for a colour option, leather sandals with a tiny wedge for dressing up a bit, and a pair of fun flip-flops, in case you take a day trip to the city beach.  You can pack your runners if you plan to go running but for the city, opt for any of these comfortable options…

Lacoste sandal jelly thong – better than the standard shape of a flip flop, comfortable, and available in fun colours

Bob’s soft canvas slip on flats by Skechers $38 – feels like slippers, and Tom’s but half the price

White canvas shoes with laces removed.  These can be found anywhere from Ardene to H&M, Joe Fresh, and Payless. You shouldn’t pay more than $20

ShoeMint leather sandals with a tiny wedge – perfect for walking around and for a night out on the town

Life is Beautiful

Extreme humidity is something I love.  The hotter the better.  But it also means I’ve given up on my hair.  There’s absolutely no way I can have my spaghetti hair draped along my neck. I. will. die. I keep wearing it in a high top bun – so high that it looks like a little hat on top of my head….like one of those fascinators.
Yesterday I found myself in a full H&M look – I didn’t mean to, it just happened.  Skirt, t-shirt, belt, and jacket are all from H&M.  Funny how that happens.  Booties are oldies from Capezio, and my purse is from Cole Haan. PS – I loved this wall I stumbled upon.  Life should always be pretty. JD

Midi Skirt Trend

Yesterday I wore my high waist midi skirt from Forever 21.  I really love this trend but, it took me a few tries before getting used to it.  I had to play around with extra pieces and accessories to feel satisfied with the whole look.  I paired it with a crop top from American Apparel, lace vest and leather jacket from H&M, a vintage necklace, and shoes from Winners.  I feel very late 1960s in this outfit and I’m excited to style up something similar with my other midi length skirts.  If you haven’t embraced this trend yet, try it out for something fun.

Day Trippin’ – Wine Country Ontario

To escape the city this past weekend, the bf and I took our bikes on the GO train and headed to St. Catharines.  After 2 bike malfunctions and a few wrong turns, we made it to the first winery called 13th Street Winery.  It’s a beautiful and homey place with a bakery too!  From there we went down the road to Creekside Estate Winery for another tasting on their rustic outdoor patio.  We then stumbled upon an amazing cheese store called Upper Canada Cheese, where we hung out eating cheese and drinking vino on picnic tables.  We then headed a bit further into Jordan Village to stroll Main street and checked out Cave Springs winery.  It was an amazing city escape and felt like we were on vacation.  There’s so much do and see in wine country and biking around Niagara in general.  Definitely worth the day trip!  JD

Pink Lady

Speaking of leopard print tights (in my previous post), here I am wearing them again with a charcoal coloured angle cut skirt from Zara and bright pink blazer from Zara as well.  Boots are from Top Shop, and I finished the look off with a vintage belt and necklace.
My sunglasses are a new and exciting addition to my eyewear collection.  I have never owned proper sunglasses because I could never decide what to get, and I’ve always been too afraid of breaking or losing them.  This pair is from an AMAZING eyewear store called Opticianado located in the Junction.  They specialize in iconic unused vintage eyewear (mine), as well as contemporary independent designers. They have such a unique selection that definitely stands out from all the others.  Check it out at 2919 Dundas St. W.  JD

Picnic In The City

When the weather is nice, people are nice.  It’s amazing what the sun and outdoors can do for us.  On the weekend I had a picnic outside complete with checkered table cloth, meat, cheese, bread, vino, olives, brussel sprouts, green beans, and ice cream for dessert.  There are so many great restaurants and patios to go to in the city, but entertaining at home is just as satisfying…especially when the table looks pretty.  JD

Polka Dot Grunge

I bought this cute polka dot dress from H&M last week.  It’s feminine and girly but I decided to make it casual with combat boots and a leather jacket.  This look is more me and I was able to ride my bike around town with ease.  I loved this random alley we stumbled upon.  It reminded me of Brooklyn, or a set for West Side Story.  Hope you enjoyed your weekend!  JD

Little Green Dress

I think it’s safe to say this green dress is ‘vintage’ H&M.  I purchased it 6 years ago. WOW.  I still like it.   I’ve worn it dressed-up with tanned legs and black booties, dressed down over leggings and flats, and in between with tights and a cardigan.
I like the look of over the knee socks but only with tights underneath.  I opted for my fish net stockings, but I also like the look with cream coloured tights.  Socks are from American Apparel, booties are from Spring and chambray shirt is from Zara.  Cheers to busting out old finds.  JD

Level 99 Jeans

Coloured jeans are one of my top must have items for the Spring/Summer season.  I fell in love with the fit and shades of Level 99 jeans.  This particular pair is the Janice ultra skinny in argon green.  I absolutely love how fresh they are.  They have just the right amount of stretch and snug.  You can find them at Anthropologie (78 Yorkville Ave).  I paired them with my floral blouse and moto jacket from H&M, and Cole Haan booties.  The random garage seemed to match too.  JD

Floral Explosion

I’ve been gravitating towards floral print items for the past couple seasons now, and I’ve gathered quite the collection.  My newest addition is this sheer floral top from H&M.  I paired it with pleated shorts from H&M as well.  Shoes are by Cole Haan, and my bag and necklace are vintage finds.  Happy long weekend! Brunello Cucinelli Inspired

One of my all time favourite designers is Brunello Cucinelli.  He’s from Italy and I had the opportunity of meeting him a few years ago.  Brunello began his collection in the 1970s with coloured cashmere sweaters and now he has a full men’s and women’s collections sold in boutiques and high-end retailers across the world.
The feel of the fabrics are true luxury and the look is effortless European cool.  Some say it’s a European version of Ralph Lauren, and I can see that, but it’s better. I forgot to mention, it costs a fortune!!
I was inspired to dress in my best Brunello on a budget look the other day and here’s what I came up with. Tan pants from Aritza, a white dress shirt, navy blazer from Zara, a grey scarf from H&M, and my all-time favourite vest from Joe Fresh. On sale now for $10 (no joke).  I also wore lace-up booties from Spring, my vintage Coach bag, and my old man hat from Kensington Market.  Voila!  JD

No Jacket Required

I’m LOVING this crazy warm weather.  I can’t believe it’s March and I’ve been leaving the house sans jacket.  Even this outfit had too many layers for our rising temps.
I’m wearing a vintage skirt I picked up in Belgium for 4 Euro, layered with a denim shirt from Zara, cropped sweater from H&M, cream tights, and my vintage Coach bag ($5).  Booties are from Spring.  Hope you’re making the most of this weather, enjoy it while it’s here.  JD

Forever In Blue Jeans Babe

Canadian tuxedo, double denim, forever in blue jeans is what I’ll be. Oh Neil Diamond, click here for the tune.  I used to rock out to that as a kid.  With my dad. In the car. Keep listening, it gets good when he belts out.

Here I’m wearing my most comfortable pair of jeggings by Canadian label – Domino.  I paired it with my denim shirt from Zara, and nubuck boots from Cole Haan.  Giant scarf is from H&M, leather gloves from Winners, and my parka is by Talula Babaton from Aritzia (old).  Have a wonderful weekend wearing blue jeans! Silky Smooth Pleats

This pleated skirt from Zara is delicate and silky smooth.  I love the colours and pattern.  I paired it with my silky smooth boyfriend shirt from Joe Fresh, a wardrobe staple!  Wool tights are from Winners, booties are by Cole Haan, and my parka is an old favourite by Talula Babaton that I got at Artizia many moons ago.  Head band is from H&M.  Enjoy your coffee break today.  JD

Light Brite

I thought this light tunnel looked a bit like Light Brite.  I loved that toy.  This type of outfit is good for a night-time event when you want to feel dressed up but comfortable too.  Liquid leggings are from American Apparel, flowy top is from H&M, hat is by Goorin Bros., and boots are Top Shop.  JD

This Time Last Year

Sometimes I look at my own blog for outfit inspiration.  I wasn’t sure what to wear this morning so I took a look at what I was wearing this time last year, and voila, I’m happy with this outfit still.
It’s good to keep inventory of what you have and remember the outfits you’ve already styled so you can get dressed in a flash on days when there’s simply no time.  On a side note, I cannot believe it’s already March!! Hopefully spring-like weather will begin sooner than later.  Happy Friday! JD

Nude on Nude

As much as I like mixing patterns and colours, I also like the simplicity of monochromatic outfits.  This is an almost full H&M look.  Skirt, top, and headband are from H&M, scarf is handmade from Argentina, and shoes are vintage.  C’est tout.  JD

Simple Navy Lace

Just hanging out along a bring wall.  Vitamin D shining in my face.  My navy lace top is from H&M, and I especially love the button detailing along the back. Red hat is from Glam Girl, jeans are by Rich & Skinny, and my leather clutch is vintage/my ma’s. Have a great day! JD

Red Check & Tangerine

Have you noticed it’s difficult to find a cheerful sweater?  Take a look around and you’ll notice every sweater in almost every store is black or grey, or some variation of black and grey combined.  Why is that?  Don’t get me wrong, I adore grey sweaters, but I think it’s necessary to inject some colour into our lives!

So when I saw this tangerine  number at Joe Fresh, I had to get it.   It was on sale, and it made me smile.  I layered a vintage red check shirt underneath (from Bungalow in Kensington Market), and threw on my Rich and Skinny jeans.  Boots are H&M and all my accessories are a mix of new and old in true JD style.

Canadian Guard – Girl Version

Where has this week gone?!? 2012 seems to be flying at warp speed these days.  It’s all good in the hood.  I’ve been busy working and playing in the snow.  This is my most recent hat purchase from The Hudson’s Bay Company, and as my mom pointed out – it looks like a Canadian Guard hat.  It really does, see here.

I’m also wearing a yellow silk shirt from Forever 21, Lace vest from H&M, Domino jeans, and my leopard print boots from Top Shop. Enjoy your weekend!! JD

Vintage Styling

Today’s outfit

Someone told me they liked my vintage outfit today.  I took it as a compliment but actually none of it is vintage.   This skirt is a new purchase from Durumi and Chocolate Shoes – a cute little store on Queen West.  A new fave of mine.  Polka dot blouse is from Winners; vest is from H&M;  silk scarf is by Dion Neckwear; and my leopard boots are from Top Shop.  Cheers!
