Blue Jean Baby

…LA lady. Seamstress for the band. Love that song and especially this scene from my favourite movie. Must re-watch soon. I didn’t learn my lesson with the heat wave and decided to wear my white jeans yet again!  Sometimes I get on a kick and wear the same things over and over.

Jeans are from Joe Fresh, top is an exceptional find from Value Village – it’s vintage Jacob! the tag looks like it could date back to 1990.  Sweetness.  Jean jacket is also a stellar find from Value Village – Vintage Levi’s!  I can’t take credit for it though, it was a gift from my BFF.  My favourite sky high heels are from Winners, belt is from a vintage shop, and my necklace is from Anthropologie.

City Island Hopping

Nikki was in town for a visit to Toronto, check out her post from the Island.  It’s one of my favourite things about this city.

Sometimes it takes living in another city to really appreciate the little things Toronto has to offer. One of those little things being Toronto Island. We all have memories of petting goats or taking the ferry, but I have not been in over ten years. I was in town with my English man in tow and we decided to rent bicycles on a random week-day to see the city from another angle. We rode around all three islands and even perved on the nude beach! Have you ever seen the residential area of Ward’s Island? Whimsical, is the only word to describe it. How do I get on that property ladder? I wore a dress/belt combo from none other than the Value Village. Shoes were second-hand brand new from Monsoon in the UK.

Wearing Winter Items in Spring + Giveaway from @Sherway_Gardens

As Canadians we have to learn to live with our stubborn weather.  One day it’s sweltering hot and the next day it’s chilly.  On the bright side, it allows me to wear a few winter items right into the spring season.  I actually don’t mind, it gives me satisfaction knowing I get a lot of use out of certain versatile items.

The cream coloured sweater is a trend I absolutely love.  I bought this one at American Eagle Outfitters at Sherway Gardens.  It’s stylish, and keeps me warm on chilly days when paired with jeans and boots, but I also wear it on those in between days (like yesterday) with a circle skirt, bare legs, and sandals – perfect transition for warmer days.

My lace dress from M for Mendocino was a staple item I wore this past winter with woolly tights, flat boots, and anorak jacket.  Now I can wear the same dress in warmer temps with a chambray shirt and sandals.

My Cole Haan menswear inspired boots from Ron White were a great trend for winter and I can’t seem to stop wearing them.  I’ve been sporting them with dresses and skirts sometimes with socks showing at the top.

Little Green Dress

I think it’s safe to say this green dress is ‘vintage’ H&M.  I purchased it 6 years ago. WOW.  I still like it.   I’ve worn it dressed-up with tanned legs and black booties, dressed down over leggings and flats, and in between with tights and a cardigan.
I like the look of over the knee socks but only with tights underneath.  I opted for my fish net stockings, but I also like the look with cream coloured tights.  Socks are from American Apparel, booties are from Spring and chambray shirt is from Zara.  Cheers to busting out old finds.  JD

The Corsage Project

Where did the week go?  Insane how time flies.  Last weekend I volunteered at an awesome charity event called The Corsage Project.  It was created 12 years ago to help young women in financial need attend their prom by providing them with a new dress, shoes, accessories, and a mini makeover – all free of charge.
My role for the day was personal shopper, which naturally I loved.  I helped girls navigate through the sea of dresses and helped them piece their entire prom look together.  It was a fun experience all 285 girls left with smiling faces.  It brought back good memories of my prom and I considered sharing photos, BUT I’ll save that for another time.  For now I’ll show you shots of the event.  JD

The event took place at the Toronto Reference Library
All of the donated dresses were brand new with tags still on

Great selection of new shoes

Shiny and shimmery

This was my favourite dress from FCUK. If I was going to prom, I would’ve picked this!

PIOLA Toronto

When I first saw PIOLA restaurant I was actually in Mexico.  The sign looked familiar and sure enough, Toronto had just opened one up too on Queen West.  Piola is a casual pizzeria with locations around the globe serving thin crust pizza over a rotating stone oven, as well as pasta, and delicious desserts.  It’s a welcoming neighbourhood spot that hosts local events like the Monday night mixer, and it’s family friendly too.
I tried the burrata pizza because that’s my favourite type of cheese, and my friend had the salami and arugula pizza.  They were both delicious.  For dessert we tried the pana cotta and tiramisu. Craving……

The next night I was inspired to make my own pizza…..

I lied, my man friend made the pizza. He also art directed this photo. Thnx DT!

Level 99 in Mandarin

I’m on a coloured jeans kick.  Here are my mandarin coloured jeans by Level 99.  These are the Janice ultra skinny but they sit a shorter on the ankle than the argon green pair.  I threw on my chambray shirt from Zara, striped scarf from H&M, and Cole Haan booties.  I love adding a splash of colour on my legs – the look can be styled in so many ways.  Also my blue bracelets are care of JewelMint! Exclusive jewelry pieces designed by Kate Bothworth and her stylist…check it out.  JD

The Floral Blazer

The floral blazer is one of my top must haves for the spring season.  I was on the hunt for the perfect floral blazer for quite some time and finally approved of this one the moment I saw it on Aritzia’s website.  It was a birthday gift to myself.  I paired it with my Levi’s cut offs, grey tights from Joe Fresh, and a basic white t-shirt from Zara.  Cole Haan shoes and a black vintage purse complete the look.  I hope to get a lot of wear out of this one.  JD

Singing In The Hail

I had planned a blog shoot on Sunday and wasn’t going to let a little rain or hail stop me.  It was a bit ridiculous and cold, but it still worked!  I always tend to wear this knit dress when it rains, I don’t know why, but it’s just my go-to rain dress.  It’s from Joe Fresh and it’s still in excellent condition despite how many times I’ve worn it. Solid purchase.
My denim shirt and trench coat are from Zara, weather proof boots are from Cole Haan, and my favourite umbrella is by Fulton.  It reminds me of walks home from elementary school, I had one just like it.  JD

Lumberjacket

Spent the day strolling the ocean in sunny BC!  These pictures were taken in Kitsilano beach and I definitely look like a lumberjack.  Denim shirt from Zara, puffy vest from Joe Fresh, and plaid jacket from Aritzia. It’s not as warm as the heat wave in Toronto, but the sight of mountains makes up for it.  Enjoy your weekend!  JD

Brunello Cucinelli Inspired

One of my all time favourite designers is Brunello Cucinelli.  He’s from Italy and I had the opportunity of meeting him a few years ago.  Brunello began his collection in the 1970s with coloured cashmere sweaters and now he has a full men’s and women’s collections sold in boutiques and high-end retailers across the world.
The feel of the fabrics are true luxury and the look is effortless European cool.  Some say it’s a European version of Ralph Lauren, and I can see that, but it’s better. I forgot to mention, it costs a fortune!!
I was inspired to dress in my best Brunello on a budget look the other day and here’s what I came up with. Tan pants from Aritza, a white dress shirt, navy blazer from Zara, a grey scarf from H&M, and my all-time favourite vest from Joe Fresh. On sale now for $10 (no joke).  I also wore lace-up booties from Spring, my vintage Coach bag, and my old man hat from Kensington Market.  Voila!  JD

No Jacket Required

I’m LOVING this crazy warm weather.  I can’t believe it’s March and I’ve been leaving the house sans jacket.  Even this outfit had too many layers for our rising temps.
I’m wearing a vintage skirt I picked up in Belgium for 4 Euro, layered with a denim shirt from Zara, cropped sweater from H&M, cream tights, and my vintage Coach bag ($5).  Booties are from Spring.  Hope you’re making the most of this weather, enjoy it while it’s here.  JD

Forever In Blue Jeans Babe

Canadian tuxedo, double denim, forever in blue jeans is what I’ll be. Oh Neil Diamond, click here for the tune.  I used to rock out to that as a kid.  With my dad. In the car. Keep listening, it gets good when he belts out.

Here I’m wearing my most comfortable pair of jeggings by Canadian label – Domino.  I paired it with my denim shirt from Zara, and nubuck boots from Cole Haan.  Giant scarf is from H&M, leather gloves from Winners, and my parka is by Talula Babaton from Aritzia (old).  Have a wonderful weekend wearing blue jeans! This pleated skirt from Zara is delicate and silky smooth.  I love the colours and pattern.  I paired it with my silky smooth boyfriend shirt from Joe Fresh, a wardrobe staple!  Wool tights are from Winners, booties are by Cole Haan, and my parka is an old favourite by Talula Babaton that I got at Artizia many moons ago.  Head band is from H&M.  Enjoy your coffee break today.  JD

Casual Comfortable Cool

I just love being casual!  It makes me so happy.  For a city stroll in the sun the other day, I wore my Second Denim Yoga Jeans in black.  They’re comfortable but not bummy.  The best.  I also wore my fringe top from Urban Outfitters, denim shirt from Zara, and vintage finishing touches – Cowgirl boots from a Thrift store in Port Colborne ($10), cashmere touque from my dad, and aviator sunglasses from my grandpa…they’re from the 70s and I love them.  Hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine and strolling around. I can’t get enough.  JD

Mackage Show FW/12

Last night I attended the Mackage Fall/Winter 2012 fashion show at the Distillery District.  I have a love affair with outerwear and was impressed with each piece that walked down the runway.  Mackage coats are simply the best.  The structure and silhouettes are better than any coats out there, and I love that it’s a Canadian label run by two talented designers from Montreal.  Kudos to a high energy and glamorous show! JD

Bold Brocade

This girly brocade dress is from Zara. It makes me feel a bit like Betty Draper.  It’s a sleeveless number, but to make it a bit more wearable I added a simple black cardigan from the Gap.  Gold belt is from Print Fine Vintage on College street, and my bag is a vintage coach purse that I picked up from a vintage pop-up sale, also on College street. It was $5!  To stick with the girly theme, I added not one but two flower corsage.  Cognac booties are from Capezio (old).  JD

This Time Last Year

Sometimes I look at my own blog for outfit inspiration.  I wasn’t sure what to wear this morning so I took a look at what I was wearing this time last year, and voila, I’m happy with this outfit still.
It’s good to keep inventory of what you have and remember the outfits you’ve already styled so you can get dressed in a flash on days when there’s simply no time.  On a side note, I cannot believe it’s already March!! Hopefully spring-like weather will begin sooner than later.  Happy Friday! JD

Outfit details: H&M Sweater, Zara skirt, Handmade hat from The Hack, Vintage accessories and hat, Cole Haan boots.

Nude on Nude

As much as I like mixing patterns and colours, I also like the simplicity of monochromatic outfits.  This is an almost full H&M look.  Skirt, top, and headband are from H&M, scarf is handmade from Argentina, and shoes are vintage.  C’est tout.  JD

Just hanging out along a bring wall.  Vitamin D shining in my face.  My navy lace top is from H&M, and I especially love the button detailing along the back. Red hat is from Glam Girl, jeans are by Rich & Skinny, and my leather clutch is vintage/my ma’s. Have a great day! JD

Jason Wu For Target

I had the pleasure of attending the Jason Wu for Target event yesterday morning at their pop-up shop on King West.  I’m usually not one to get hyped about designer collaborations with mainstream retailers, but this one was legit and I was pleasantly surprised!  The pieces were pretty and feminine, and made me want to dress up and go for a spring walk while holding tulips in my hand.  The best part was good quality material and affordable prices.

Jason Wu spoke to a crowd of excited fashion media and bloggers, and famed stylist Brad Goreski was in attendance too!  Looking forward to the real Target stores.  Sweetness. JD
